January 2016 Principal Parent Letter

Dear Families,

Happy New Year!   I hope you all had a wonderful break.  It is finally feeling like winter out there, not sure how I feel about this!  Please remember to send your children in with warm clothes!  We go outside everyday unless it’s raining, extremely cold, or the playground is unsafe (like it is today).  Fresh air and an opportunity to run around are very important.  The children are allowed to bring in plastic sleds with the expectation that they will share their sleds with the other children.  The sledding hill is monitored closely and the paraeducators have strict rules to keep the children safe.  On occasion we will need to close the sledding hill when it becomes too icy and unsafe.

Our fabulous School Club is hosting a fundraiser on Friday, January 8th from 4pm to 8pm at Launch Trampoline Park in Nashua, NH.  The School Club will receive 25% of all admission sales from those that come Friday night.  Please spread the word to family and friends. You don’t have to live in Mason to take advantage of this fundraiser.    I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday night!

The Mason School Board will meet twice this month.  The first meeting is Monday, January 11th at 6:30 and the second meeting will be Monday, January 25th also at 6:30.  Both meetings will discuss the 2016-17 School Year budget.  This is your opportunity to learn about how the budget was developed and ask questions.  The deliberative session is on Saturday, February 6th at 9:00 am where the final budget amount that will appear on the March ballot will be voted on by the Mason Residents. Please join us at these meeting to learn more about the budget process.

On Friday, January 15th at 6pm Mr. Rick and Company will be hosting a movie night.  Be on the lookout for more information about the movie that will be shown.   January 18th there will be no school in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.  Tuesday the 19th will be the next Principal/Parent Meeting at 9:15 in my office.  Don’t forget to keep reading for the Fisher Cat Challenge.  If you have completed the challenge feel free to send the completed form in and we will keep it safe until it’s time to mail them in.

During my time in Mason I have noticed that many parents meet up in the parking lot after dropping their children off and chat with other parents.  This is such a wonderful opportunity to build relationships but now that winter has arrived who wants to stand outside and chat so I have decided to start the MES Breakfast Club.  On Wednesday, January 27th from 9am – 11am we will be hosting the first MES Breakfast Club.  This is an opportunity for moms, dads, grandparents, and other caretakers to enjoy each other’s company over a delicious breakfast provided by Chef Deb.  You can chat with other parents/ guardians and share the joys and stresses of life as well as make new friendships or catch up with friends you haven’t seen in a while.  Non-school aged children are invited to join but please make sure you keep a close eye on them.  This event will happen in the café and the cost will be $5.00 per adult breakfast and $2.00 per child breakfast.  Chef Deb will be serving spinach, bacon, and onion quiche with shredded home fries, sausage, and fruit on the 27th.  We will have plenty of coffee as well!    Please RSVP by Friday, January 22, 2016 and send in your payment so that Chef Deb will be sure to have enough food for everyone.  You can just send in an envelope with the payment to Heidi and we will pass the count on to Chef Deb.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2016!
